Enjoy this healthy chocolate dessert without fear: your friends and family won’t even be able to guess there’s sweet potato in it! One way to shock them is to reveal this fact after they’ve thoroughly enjoyed their slice of cake (and trust us- they will). The shock on their faces will give everyone around the table a hearty laugh.
Antioxidant Rich Chocolate Treat Recipe: Sweet and Nourishing
While traditional chocolate desserts can be rich and satisfying, they often include ingredients that may not support everyone’s dietary goals, such as excessive sugars, unhealthy fats, or processed additives. However, with a few mindful adjustments, we can elevate a chocolate dessert into a deliciously satisfying and nutrient-packed treat. Let’s explore how to create a Healthy Chocolate Dessert.
A key ingredient in this recipe is sweet potato, a naturally sweet and fiber-rich vegetable that also boasts a high content of beta-carotene, an antioxidant that supports skin health and immune function. By incorporating 400g of cooked sweet potato as the base, we add a smooth, velvety texture and a wealth of vitamins and nutrients, all while naturally sweetening the dessert without refined sugars.
The next essential element is dark chocolate, particularly 70% cocoa or higher, known for its rich flavor and powerful antioxidants. Dark chocolate is celebrated for its heart-healthy benefits and its ability to boost mood and cognitive function. Choosing the best quality dark chocolate ensures that your dessert remains both indulgent and healthful.
To enhance the flavor further, we incorporate Moroccan mint tea, which introduces a refreshing herbal note to the chocolate base. Alternatively, for a creamier texture, you might use nut milk like hazelnut or aromatic additions such as orange blossom water or rose water. These ingredients not only enrich the flavor but also contribute additional health benefits, from the calming effects of mint to the nourishing properties of nuts.
Finally, for those who prefer a bit more sweetness, a few drops of stevia can be added to taste. Stevia is a natural, calorie-free sweetener that doesn’t spike blood sugar levels, making it an excellent alternative to traditional sugars.
This Healthy Chocolate Dessert is packed with fiber and beta-carotene from the sweet potato, powerful antioxidants from the dark chocolate, and elevated with the unique flavors of Moroccan mint tea or your choice of nut milk. These thoughtful substitutions not only boost the nutritional value of the dessert but also make it a guilt-free indulgence that’s perfect for any occasion.
To make this Creamy, Healthy Chocolate Dessert, you will need the following ingredients:
This serves 15-16 portions. Enjoy!
– 400g sweet potato
– 200g dark chocolate 70% (best quality you can afford)
– 50g Moroccan mint tea (could be replaced by a nut milk like hazelnut 😋 or orange blossom water, rose water, etc.)
– Optional: stevia drops if needed
To prepare, here are the steps:
1. Bake until soft in oven, air fryer (we used the BBQ) about 45min but it depends on the thickness
2. Melt chocolate in bain-marie
3. Peel the sweet potatoes while the chocolate is cooling down a bit.
4. In a blender, mix all ingredients until smooth and well combined.
5. Taste and adjust sweetness with a couple stevia drops if needed.
6. Spread the mixture in a small container lined with parchment paper (I used a 10x18cm tray)
7. Reserve in the fridge for a couple of hours (minimum 3h)
This dessert brings together the deep, indulgent flavors of high-quality dark chocolate with the natural sweetness of sweet potatoes, creating a harmonious balance that’s both decadent and nutritious. Serve this dessert as a comforting end to a meal or a wholesome snack, knowing that every bite is packed with antioxidants, fiber, and essential nutrients. Enjoy this healthy option as a delicious alternative to traditional sweets, allowing you to indulge in the pleasures of chocolate without compromising on your health.
