Some days, we just need something sweet.
Not a meal. Not a juice. Just something to hold in your hand, pop in your mouth, and feel instantly better, like these raw chocolate bites.
But if you’ve ever tried to “do better” with your snack habits, you’ve likely run into the same roadblock: most options that call themselves healthy… aren’t.
Either they’re packed with dates, honey, and syrup (so much for weight loss), or they’re full of “sugar-free” swaps that are worse than the sugar itself. Aspartame, maltodextrin, or other sweeteners that disrupt your gut microbiome, spike insulin, and leave you feeling more tired, not less.

This week, in celebration of International Chocolate Day, I want to share a new kind of treat with you. One that actually supports your body, not sabotages it.
Let me introduce you to my homemade raw chocolate bites: a delicious, easy-to-make recipe that tastes indulgent but works behind the scenes to support your gut health, balance your hormones, and help you stay light and energized this summer.
Why your body needs better treats this summer
Summer often inspires us to make lighter choices. But even with the best intentions, cravings can get in the way, especially during hot, energy-draining days.
And while we might reach for something quick, that short-term “fix” can backfire.
The trap of “sugar-free” snacks
We’ve been told that cutting sugar means we can just replace it. But artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols are known to disrupt the delicate balance of your gut microbiome, increase inflammation, and confuse your body’s natural hunger signals.
That’s not what you want when trying to lose weight, improve energy, or support digestion.
How inflammation impacts weight and energy
Chronic low-grade inflammation is a hidden reason many of us feel bloated, tired, or struggle to lose extra kilos, especially during hormonal shifts or peri-menopause.
Food is one of the most powerful tools we have to calm that inflammation. But it’s not just about avoiding the bad, it’s about adding the right kind of good.

What makes these chocolate bites different
These chocolate bites were designed to be the opposite of a blood sugar spike. They combine anti-inflammatory, detox-supportive ingredients with a texture that satisfies and a taste that truly feels like dessert.
Gut-friendly, anti-inflammatory ingredients
Each bite is rich in fiber, healthy fats, and plant-based compounds that nourish your microbiome and reduce inflammation: two essential foundations for natural detox and sustainable weight loss.
A slow-release energy boost to fight cravings
Thanks to the combination of raw cacao, nut butter, and coconut oil, these bites offer steady energy without the crash. They’re perfect for keeping your focus sharp, your mood lifted, and your appetite balanced, even during the busiest summer days.
The recipe: homemade raw chocolate bites

Ingredients:
Makes about 30-35 bites
- 100g raw cacao powder
- 120g Nut butter (here I used cashew butter)
- 50g Raw honey
- 35g Raw cacao powder
- Pinch of sea salt or himalayan salt
- Spices: you could add 1/4 tsp of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cardamom/clove (less) or a mix
Optional toppings
- Coconut pieces or seeds
- Sultana or shredded dates
- Goji berries or mulberries
- Dried rose petals or freeze dry berries
Instructions:
- In a sauce pan, gently melt coconut oil then add nut butter and maple syrup.
- Whisk well before adding the raw cacao and salt.
- Then whisk more until all ingredients are well combined
- Pour the mixture into the desired chocolate silicone moulds and add any topping you wish.
- Chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour or in the freezer for about 20 minutes.
- Remove the chocolate bites from the moulds and store in an airtight container in the fridge.
Notes:
If you would like to reduce the sugar content of this recipe, you can replace some or all the maple syrup by stevia drops or green powder.

The science behind the ingredients
Raw cacao: antioxidant-rich and hormone-friendly
Unlike conventional cocoa, raw cacao is minimally processed and packed with magnesium, iron, and flavonoids. It supports blood flow, hormone production, and even mood, all while satisfying your chocolate craving without added sugar.
Nuts & seeds: stable blood sugar + healthy fats
Nut butters like almond or hazelnut provide healthy monounsaturated fats that keep your blood sugar steady and your hunger satisfied. They also contain vitamin E, which supports skin health and reduces oxidative stress.
Coconut oil: supports metabolism and detox pathways
Coconut oil is rich in medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are quickly used for energy and may help rev up metabolism. It’s also supportive of liver detox and hormone balance.
How to use this recipe to support weight loss and balance
You can enjoy these chocolate bites as:
- a pre-workout bite to gain energy boost
- a mid-afternoon snack to avoid the sugar slump
- a small treat after lunch that doesn’t mess with your insulin levels
They’re especially helpful when cravings hit or when you need something satisfying without reaching for refined carbs or ultra-processed sweets.
During summer, when digestion is naturally more sluggish and heat drains your energy, choosing the right foods makes a real difference.
And these bites? They’re one of those small but powerful choices that support your bigger goals, whether that’s to lose weight, reduce inflammation, or simply feel better in your body.
