Yoga is more than a form of exercise—it’s a way of life that can transform physical, emotional, and mental well-being. For Marine Baaklini, a certified yoga instructor specializing in Hormonal Yoga Therapy, Yin Yoga, and Yoga Nidra, yoga is also a tool for healing and empowerment, particularly for women navigating hormonal changes.
We sat down with Marine to learn more about her journey, her specialization in Hormonal Yoga, and how she’s helping women achieve balance and vitality through her work at MyAuthentikSpoon.
From Stress to Serenity: Marine’s Yoga Journey
Can you share a bit about your background and how you discovered yoga?
“I’ve been practicing yoga for more than 10 years and teaching it for almost 5 years now. I used to work in a fast-paced corporate environment, which often left me feeling stressed and disconnected from my body and mind. Yoga first came into my life as a way to manage stress and find balance. Over time, it became much more than that: it transformed into a passion and a calling.“
What inspired you to specialize in Hormonal Yoga?
“Hormonal Yoga has a profound impact on women’s health. Nowadays, Hormonal imbalances are incredibly common, especially among women over 35, and can affect everything from mood and energy to overall well-being. In 2019, I had the chance to be trained and certified by Dinah Rodrigues, the founder of the Hormonal Yoga Therapy method.. Her deep knowledge, decades of research, and passion for empowering women through yoga were truly inspiring. She not only taught me the techniques but also the importance of blending science and spirituality to address hormonal health effectively. Specializing in Hormonal Yoga has allowed me to connect with women on a deeply personal level and support them through life-changing transitions and challenges like menopause, PCOS, and fertility.”
Understanding Hormonal Yoga Therapy
Can you explain what Hormonal Yoga Therapy is and how it differs from traditional yoga?
“Hormonal Yoga Therapy is a specific yoga practice designed to balance and stimulate the endocrine system, which is responsible for hormone production. It combines dynamic postures, breathing techniques and visualization from the Yoga traditions, to target the ovaries, thyroid, adrenal glands, and pituitary gland. It’s different from traditional yoga because it focuses specifically on hormonal health, making it especially effective for women dealing with hormonal imbalances.”
What does a typical session of your practice involve?
“Each session begins with a warm-up to wake up the body and focus the mind. Then we move into specific dynamic postures that work directly on the glands, combined with breathing techniques to enhance their effectiveness. We end with relaxation exercises to lower cortisol and allow the body to absorb the benefits of the session. The practice is accessible to everyone—adaptations can always be made.”
The Benefits of Hormonal Yoga
Who can benefit from Hormonal Yoga Therapy?
“It is ideal for women over 35, as this is when hormonal production starts to decline naturally. It’s particularly beneficial for managing perimenopause and menopause symptoms, improving fertility, and addressing conditions like PCOS or thyroid imbalances. It’s also a fantastic option for any woman looking to enhance her overall well-being naturally.”
What symptoms can it help alleviate?
“This practice helps alleviate a wide range of symptoms, including hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings, and fatigue. Women with menstrual irregularities or PMS often notice significant improvements. I’ve had clients tell me they feel like themselves again after just a few sessions. One participant even regained her menstrual cycle after only two sessions, after more than six months without cycles !”
Can anyone practice Hormonal Yoga Therapy? Are there any contraindications?
“It is accessible to most people, and modifications can be made to suit individual needs. However, it is prohibited for pregnant women, those with advanced endometriosis, or individuals who have had hormone-dependent cancers. In these cases, it’s important to consult a doctor first.”
Complementary Practices: Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra
You also teach Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra. How do these practices complement Hormonal Yoga?
“Yin Yoga is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and targets the meridians of the body. It works on connective tissues, like joints and fascia and releases tension in the body. It’s deeply restorative and complements Hormonal Yoga Therapy beautifully by addressing physical stress and stiffness. Yoga Nidra, on the other hand, is a deep relaxation practice that helps calm the nervous system and reduce stress. Together, these practices create a holistic approach to support the hormonal health.”
